An Interview with Phil Levine
Phil Levine is an artist, teacher, husband, father and friend of mine. He is also a Jewish believer.
1. What would you like people to know about your religion: We believe in God- the one God from the Bible. 2. What do you believe? The ten commandments- that's our main belief- We use the Old Testament. We pray to God. 3. Why do you believe this? My ancestors were Jewish so I believe it. 4. Do you have any special items in your religion? The Star of David- We wear a prayer shawl. Also a Kappa- head covering when we pray. 5. Do you have any special food in your religion? Kosher food- We don't eat shellfish, or pork. We can't mix meat and cheese so no cheeseburgers and no bacon! On Hanukkah, we make potato pancakes. On Friday night, we eat Challah. On the New Year, we eat apples and honey. That symbolizes a sweet year. 6. Do you have one or many gods? One God- We're the first monotheistic religion 7. How do you practice your religion? We celebrate all of the Jewish holidays and we go to the synagogue on Fridays and Saturday nights. 8. What is your favorite part of your religion? The food, the family, and then the community and traditions- it gives us a good path to follow. 9. What is the hardest part of your religion? Keeping Kosher 10. Do you think your religion is not understood? Yes, I think we are misunderstood. |
